The need for mental and behavioral health services on college and university campuses is increasing for both new students who arrive with documented psychiatric disabilities and other students who are coping with traumatic life issues, stress, anxiety, depression, and emerging mental and behavioral health illnesses. The American College Health Association (ACHA) organized a national research survey (National College Health Assessment, NCHA) which provides the largest known comprehensive data set on the health of college students. According to the ACHA-NCHA, 15% of college students reported that they have been diagnosed or treated for depression, and 37% reported depression severe enough to impact function.
In this CME Outfitters Snack, expert faculty discuss depression among college students and the impact psychiatric disorders have on them personally, as well as their academic progress. The faculty presents resources, campus programs, pharmacological, and nonpharmacological strategies for addressing the problem of depression amongst college students.

At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:
- Implement routine screening practices for early detection of depression in college-age patients.
- Implement resources and services that promote a culture of help-seeking to help students at-risk for depression.
- Integrate pharmacological and nonpharmacological strategies into a clinical management plan for college students with depression.
Supported by educational grants from Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. and Lundbeck.
