Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a treatable but often relapsing chronic illness with a limited success rate if merely treated with detoxification. It has become a major public health challenge, with a four-fold increase in diagnoses. Despite this increase, the use of FDA-approved medication for OUD (MOUD), particularly extended-release formulations, is lagging. This has precipitated an increased risk of relapse and death. To mitigate the impact of the opioid epidemic, it is imperative for clinicians to receive guidance on the use of extended-release MOUD.
The first episode in this three-part CMEOcast podcast series on best practices in OUD analyzes the latest clinical updates on the safety and efficacy of extended-release MAT for OUD in order to improve clinical outcomes for struggling patients.
At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:
- Analyze the latest clinical updates on the safety and efficacy of extended-release medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) to prevent relapse.
The following learning objectives pertain only to those requesting CNE or CPE credit:
- Analyze the latest clinical updates on the safety and efficacy of extended-release medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) to prevent relapse.
