Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin that is common in both children and adults. This complex condition is often caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors that affect the severity and clinical course of this disease. Individuals with AD may face ongoing treatment, long-term disability, hospitalization, and reduced quality of life, and as such are particularly vulnerable to health care disparities. As with many other chronic diseases, AD has a disproportionately high prevalence and poorer outcomes among patients of color compared with White patients. The spread of SARS-CoV-2 and the ensuing quarantine have amplified the risk burden as well as barriers to health care for minority and low-income populations in the United States.
This CME Outfitters Live and OnDemand will feature patient voices in addition to expert faculty discussing the implementation of best practices for diagnosing, evaluating, and treating AD among patients of color, the latest evidence on health care disparities in patients with AD and the impact of COVID-19 on the care of patients of color with AD, as well as the application of optimal strategies to manage patients with AD during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the clinical presentation of AD and its impact on quality of life in patients of color.
- Implement best practices to diagnose, evaluate, and treat AD in child and adult patients of color.
- Evaluate the latest evidence regarding health care disparities in patients with AD and the impact of COVID-19 on the care for patients of color with AD.
