Statement of Need

Alopecia areata (AA) is an immune-mediated disorder causing patchy hair loss on the scalp, face, or body. It is associated with several comorbidities including depression, anxiety, and additional autoimmune diseases. The frequency of concurrent conditions and overall symptomatology of AA differs among geographically separate populations, suggesting a genetically variable etiology. To form an appropriate differential diagnosis, clinicians must be able to recognize clinical manifestations and disease severity among diverse subtypes of AA.

Join Drs. Nekma Meah and Dmitri Wall for the second installment of this three-part virtual Journal Club series as they discuss the clinical manifestations of AA and associated autoimmune disorders in different patient populations.
