The majority of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) curricula in PharmD programs teach information consistent with HIV prevention treatment guidelines. However, in a 2021 survey, a vast majority (> 75%) of learners, primarily pharmacists, were not confident about providing HIV PrEP counseling to patients, and more than 50% indicated that they needed additional education on creating an environment where patients seeking HIV prevention guidance feel more welcome.
In the final episode of this CMEO podcast series, Starting the Conversation: HIV Testing & Initiating PrEP, join Drs. Dan Scales and Kalumi Ayala-Rivera as they provide valuable guidance on engaging at-risk patients in informed and sensitive discussions regarding HIV testing and initiation of PrEP.
At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:
- Implement sensitive and appropriate patient education regarding HIV testing and HIV PrEP with patients at risk for HIV.
