Statement of Need

In this third of three CMEO Snacks, Dr. Dowdell and his team demonstrate the application of topical hemostasis during a procedure performed at an ambulatory surgery center. Specifically, the use of a flowable agent is prepared and administered to provide prompt and reliable hemostasis for cancellous bone bleeding – a common need in orthopedic and spine procedures. In addition, Dr. Dowdell provides tips and pearls for navigating difficult-to-access and difficult-to-visualize operative sites of bleeding and discusses topical hemostatic agents appropriate for capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:

• Implement strategies to control bleeding in hospital outpatient and ambulatory surgery settings.

ABIM MOC Credit:
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 0.50 medical knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
