The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is rising in racial and ethnic underserved population continue to drive disparities in outcomes. Individualized treatment strategies are needed, including shared decision-making and a multidisciplinary team approach, to work toward providing equitable care for patients with IBD.
In this CME Outfitters BriefCase, Drs. Peek and Quezada will guide learners through a patient case scenario reflective of the impact of biases, disparities, and health inequities that exist in racial and ethnic underserved patients with IBD. This program will provide actionable strategies, empowering attendees to recognize social determinants of health and implement changes in practice to improve IBD treatment.
At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify the impact of health inequities on patients with gastroenterology concerns.
- Individualize treatment strategies that include assessment of SDoH for optimal outcomes in gastroenterology patients.

Physicians, physician associates (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), nurses, pharmacists, dieticians specializing in gastroenterology, surgery, primary care, or internal medicine.
ABIM MOC Credit:
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 0.75 medical knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
Royal College MOC:
Through an agreement between the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, medical practitioners participating in the Royal College MOC Program may record completion of accredited activities registered under the ACCME’s “CME in Support of MOC” program in Section 3 of the Royal College’s MOC Program.
