Statement of Need

Symptoms associated with menopause include hot flashes and night sweats, collectively known as vasomotor symptoms (VMS); vaginal dryness; mood and sleep disturbances; and somatic complaints. Of these, VMS constitute the most common menopausal complaint, the main reason that women seek medical care. Yet, despite the significance of this complaint in terms of prevalence and morbidity, data support that menopausal VMS is undertreated. Thus, important opportunities exist for you to improve care and change clinical outcomes for these women.

This CMEO SmartMobile™, designed to be a concise, digestible, CME/CE activity optimized for viewing on your smart device, provides pearls for practice related to managing menopause-associated VMS. It explores building a therapeutic alliance with women in midlife, using evidence-based findings to guide treatment recommendations for hormonal and nonhormonal therapies, and evaluating how emerging therapies will fit into the therapeutic toolbox.

    • Evaluate the rationales for existing treatment recommendations and recent expert thought supporting the use of hormone therapy for moderate to severe, menopause-associated vasomotor symptoms (VMS).
    • Identify key messages to deliver when counseling women on the efficacy and safety of hormonal therapy for menopause-associated VMS.
    • Identify key messages to deliver when counseling women on the efficacy and safety of nonhormonal therapy for menopause-associated VMS, including complementary and alternative strategies and emerging therapies.

    Financial Support

Supported by an educational grant from Pfizer Inc.
