Statement of Need

Chair Summit is a unique and powerful learning opportunity that is a world apart from other events and conferences. At Chair Summit, participants become involved and engaged in every session. This interactive three-day conference offers attendees the opportunity to fine tune their educational needs and practice challenges. The nationally known faculty are Chairmen of Departments of Psychiatry and Neurology and experts in the field. The opportunity to interact and learn from the very opinion leaders who are creating tomorrow’s science is a very unique and special experience.(1)

Continuing medical education today lives in multiple realms. The live face-to-face, expert-learner interaction has existed since the days of Hippocrates teaching colleagues and students at his school at Kos. Live meetings have continued to evolve into new formats that include large- and small-group sessions and case-based challenges for highlighting the clinical application of the latest science. In addition, technological advances have opened up an entity such as a live meeting to become an enduring educational experience. Young and colleagues describe that there is still a need for face-to-face interaction at medical meetings, and these are often the preferred method for learning. We can, however, use the online world to offer a complementary view of important educational venues.(2)

This CMEO conference report offers readers a glimpse into this special event and highlights some of the topics discussed that range from schizophrenia, mood disorders, and the DSM-5 to genetics, pain, Alzheimer’s disease, and much more.
