Dr. Rigby received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed an internship in internal medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston and a residency in internal medicine at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dr. Rigby is Professor of Medicine, Microbiology, and Immunology in the Division of Rheumatology at Dartmouth Medical School and is the Staff Rheumatologist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He became the Vice-Chairman of Academic Affairs in the Department of Medicine in 2008.

Dr. Rigby is interested in novel pathways that regulate the expression of TNF and CD40 ligand (CD154). The author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Rigby has been a principal investigator in many clinical trials related to the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, with a particular interest in the immunomodulatory effects of biologic agents.
