neuroscienceCME Conference
4th Annual Chair Summit - Recap
Last week, psychiatrists, neurologists, and primary care providers from the United States and Canada gathered for the 4th Annual Chair Summit in Annapolis, MD. At the conference, department chairs from universities across the country presented exciting new research and evidence-based treatment standards and led interactive sessions driven by real-life clinical questions from attendees.
Presentations at Chair Summit focused on critical and timely issues in the neurosciences. Each day included interactive sessions driven by the participants' practices and insights. A few highlights include:
- Daniel Weinberger, MD sorted out the role of genetics in the manifestation of schizophrenia in his plenary talk Genes and Schizophrenia: Intriguing, but Confusing.
- Multimodal Therapy for MS-Associated Cognitive Dysfunction, a session led by Michael Racke, MD reviewed many advances made in screening and treatment for MS in recent years, including high-field imaging and evidence-based research on new agents.
- A session led by Joel Silverman, MD on Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Controversy looked at important factors to consider when evaluating patients for mTBI, such as questions you should ask to confirm symptoms are actually consistent with mTBI.
- A well-received session led by Charles Nemeroff, MD, PhD on Depression and Inflammation examined the connections and relationship between disorders like MDD with higher mortality rates and immune system dysfunction, metabolic and chronic inflammatory responses.
- In addition to his presentation on Alzheimer's disease and depression, K. Ranga Rama Krishnan, MD shared the innovations in graduate medical education being implemented at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore.
