PRESS RELEASE

CME Outfitters and USF Health Announce the Launch of a New Skin Infection CME Activity

CME Outfitters and USF Health Accepting Registration For Upcoming Online Journal Club Activity with Interactive Q&A Focusing on Improving Outcomes For Patients With Skin Infection

BETHESDA, Maryland (March 14, 2013) – CME Outfitters (CMEO), a leading accredited provider in continuing medical education, in collaboration with USF Health, announces its upcoming online Journal Club CME/CE activity entitled, “Improving Outcomes: When Infection Is More Than Skin Deep.”  The live activity launches Thursday, April 18 at 12:00pm ET. CMEO and USF Health invite physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who evaluate individuals for skin infections to register for the activity.

The Journal Club features an interview between Dr. Michael Niederman and article lead author Dr. Benjamin Lipsky. The expert faculty will discuss the results and implications of the peer-reviewed article reporting a prospective, multicenter study on cSSTI management in the journal, BMC Infectious Diseases. Using the article as a springboard, Dr. Niederman and Dr. Lipsky will explore the continually changing epidemiology of MRSA infection, the rationale supporting gold-standard I & D, and available data that support optimal selection of antimicrobial therapy.
The CME Outfitters Journal Club faculty will discuss how the findings of the study may guide clinicians’ practices related to:

  • The need for and value of a prospective observational study of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs)
  • The main types of SSTIs that result in hospitalization, and how they are classified
  • Demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with various types of SSTIs
  • Patterns of treatment (antibiotic and surgical) clinicians do (and perhaps should) provide for hospitalized patients with SSTI
  • Outcomes of SSTIs and what factors most influence them.

There is no fee to register for or participate in the program, however registration is required. There are two easy ways to register:
Online: Visit http://www.cmeoutfitters.com/JC016 and click “Register for Activity”
