CME Outfitters Celebrates Successes From the 37th Annual Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions Conference

Attendance at the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions 37th Annual Conference resulted in CME Outfitters receiving two NAMEC Awards and one Distinguished Member Award

POWELL, Ohio (March 15, 2012) – CME Outfitters (CMEO), a leading provider for continuing medical education, celebrates its many accomplishments from the Annual Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP).  CMEO is proud to announce the acceptance of the National Association of Medical Education Companies (NAMEC) Award for Best Practice in Collaboration Among CME Stakeholders. Criteria for the award include: an activity that incorporated policies or procedures to facilitate collaboration, or a unique way to collaborate, or illustrated partnership with a non-traditional stakeholder.  CME Outfitters celebrated a win this year for the unique collaboration in the development of an educational effectiveness study that led to the creation of an outcomes publication entitled Clinician Education Improves Lipid Monitoring in Patients Taking Second-Generation Antipsychotic Agents, Nationally and Locally.  This continuing education initiative and educational study represent a unique educational collaboration between CME Outfitters, the University of South Florida (USF) Health, and the Lindner Center of HOPE in Cincinnati, Ohio. All stakeholders worked collaboratively to develop methods to address learners’ needs and evaluate the overall effectiveness of the educational interventions in improving patient health outcomes. The original research and details of the outcomes study, including statistical analyses and results, will be published in the peer-reviewed medical literature in late Spring 2012. The article details the multiple effects of CME on clinicians’ behavior related to metabolic monitoring rates in patients who take second-generation antipsychotic agents.  In this performance-improvement initiative nationwide learners’ gross monitoring rates increased by 17.8%, and local rates at the Lindner Center of HOPE increased even more; by 28.0%. The authors, the Lindner Center of HOPE, USF Health, and CME Outfitters, LLC, thank Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., administered by Janssen Scientific Affairs, and Lilly USA, LLC, for financial support of this educational research study.

NAMEC also recognized a CME Outfitters individual team member, Monique Johnson, MD, CCMEP, for her outstanding dedication and service to the CME professional community.  Dr. Johnson received the 2012 Brian P. Russell Exemplary CME Professional Award.  This distinction is awarded annually to an individual working within a NAMEC member company who has demonstrated excellence in service to NAMEC and the broader CME community. As in the past, Brian P. Russell’s parents attended the awards ceremony on January 22, 2012 in Orlando, Florida to personally present the award on behalf of their late son, a highly esteemed CME veteran over 25 years of service to the CME community.

When asked about receiving the award, Dr. Johnson shared: “As I learned more about Brian’s work from my colleagues who knew him personally and professionally, I recognized his legacy to be one of mentoring, leadership, and innovation.  Indeed, I am very honored to be regarded as someone who embodies those qualities.”

CMEO Managing Partner, Jan Perez, CCMEP was also recognized as a distinguished member of the ACEHP.  The distinguished member award recognizes significant service, active participation, and sustained membership in the ACEHP.  Alliance President, George Mejicano, recognized Perez and other distinguished member award recipients on day two of the conference.
