CME Outfitters Partners With The Jed Foundation on Certified CME Webcast Supported by an Educational Grant from The Bob Woodruff Foundation

CME Outfitters launches a new CME webcast in joint sponsorship with The Jed Foundation and supported by an educational grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation on Understanding and Supporting the Emotional Health of Student Veterans

POWELL, Ohio (September 12, 2012) – CME Outfitters (CMEO), a leading accredited provider in continuing medical education, is honored to work with The Jed Foundation with support from the Bob Woodruff Foundation on the certified CME activity entitled, “Understanding and Supporting the Emotional Health of Student Veterans.”  CMEO is the accredited provider for the enduring webcast. The activity is certified through April 2014 for physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and licensed mental health counselors. Upon completion of their service in Iraq or Afghanistan, there has been an influx of student veterans on college campuses. The transition from military duty to campus life brings special challenges for both student and campus health care providers. The Jed Foundation and CMEO launched this initiative with a goal to equip college medical and mental health professionals with the knowledge, information, and resources to support the emotional health of student veterans and facilitate a successful transition to college life.

“Working with The Jed Foundation with the support of the Bob Woodruff Foundation has been a truly rewarding experience for CMEO. Student veterans bring a wealth of experience and can be a great asset to the learning community. It has been an honor to work on an educational initiative that focuses specifically on these student veterans and we are proud to be a part of efforts to increase awareness and knowledge of the military culture and the spectrum of challenges faced by both student veterans and the college health care providers,” said Beth Brillinger, Director of Accreditation for CMEO.

The Jed Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that works to promote emotional health and prevent suicide among college students. Members of the Jed Foundation worked alongside campus professionals and veterans to develop the training, which helps healthcare professional’s understand the student veteran perspective, and identify and address emotional health problems related to their service, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and combat depression. The Bob Woodruff Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that provides resources and support to service members, veterans, and their families to help them reintegrate into their communities so they may thrive physically, psychologically, socially and economically.

The webinar is hosted by Bill Smith, BSW, MS, Health Educator with the Office of Student Health & Wellness at The University of Missouri – Kansas City and Sheryl Frye, MS, MSW, Assistant Director of Counseling for Military Student Services at Northern Illinois University. The program can be viewed at CME Outfitters website, http://www.cmeoutfitters.com/cmea.asp?ID=641.

“Working with CME Outfitters has been an excellent experience,” said John MacPhee, Executive Director of The Jed Foundation, “CMEO’s reputation, quality of work, and experience in the field make them a perfect partner for this initiative. Both The Jed Foundation and CMEO share the goal of improving the emotional health of students through the education of campus professionals, and that is exactly what we hope to accomplish.”
