FROM THE CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE CENTER
Beware the Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus
Tuesday March 25th sees the 20th Annual American Diabetes Alert Day. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a growing concern in the United States with around 200,000 deaths each year directly attributable to this disorder. There is an increased risk of comorbid type 2 DM (T2DM) in patients with various psychiatric disorders. For instance, the prevalence of T2DM in people with schizophrenia is estimated to be at least 2-3 fold higher than for the general population. In one study, people with T2DM were shown to have depression prevalence rates of 20% compared with only 4% in healthy controls (p = .04). Comorbidity can adversely affect both conditions and may lead to an early death. This is evidenced by an investigation that compared people with a single diagnosis versus a dual-diagnosis of T2DM and depression. They found that a dual-diagnosis conferred a 2.5-fold increased likelihood of death over a period of 8 years...

INSTANT CME/CE CERTIFICATES AT neuroscienceCME.com
Are you one of the thousands of busy clinicians using the convenient online testing and certificate processing track at neuroscienceCME.com? After completing any neuroscienceCME activity—regardless of format—you may now take a quick post-test, receive your score, submit an evaluation, and print your certificate immediately or whenever you choose, all from your desktop. While we still offer more traditional methods of requesting credit, our participants are voting with their keyboards and going the electronic route, thus helping us minimize our "carbon footprint." We appreciate the way that the neuroscienceCME learning community has embraced this technology and we invite your feedback and ideas on how to make this tool even more useful.
There are two ways to access neuroscienceCME's online testing feature. Visit www.neuroscienceCME.com/test to view a list of all available activities, or click on the "Complete Post-Test/Print CE Certificate" link at the top right of most activity details pages on neuroscienceCME.com.
PS: For optimal performance, we recommend that all users download and install the latest version of Flash Player. This is the #1 troubleshooting tip that we provide our users, and is also the one that resolves 99% of all problems. This free software is available on the software page at neuroscienceCME.com and may also be downloaded at www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer.
